In 2001 JU Forum, I had thought of a recipe for making both JU and JUDE better. A ‘practicing’ student then, my perceptions were more acute, and ideas more emergent and imaginative. Not much transpired beyond a mere listing of the points I wanted to write about. Nor have I the tenacity to follow the leads I provided myself more than five years back. But it would still be a nice exercise in fantasy to provide a recipe for betterment. I present, under two separate heads for JU and JUDE, on what I had intended to be that recipe:
How to make JU better?
- The faculty at Jadavpur – the shortcomings
- Better campus management
- More emphasis on extra-curricular activities
- Sanskriti – The Annual college fests
- Arani – the Arts Faculty magazine
How to make JUDE better?
- Change the UG syallabus
- Buy books for students
- Provide faculty-authored materials
- Change the question pattern in exams
- Introduce ‘projects’ as part of the syallabi
While I have forgotten what I intended to write on each of these counts, I shall have occasion in the future to expand upon them.
